About Was It Breached
Was It Breached explains recent data breaches in plain language: which company, what leaked, how many people, and what to do if you got a letter.
Who it's for
Anyone who got a breach letter, an email or a news alert and wants to know what it means for them, without legal jargon or alarm. We don't run an email lookup and we don't ask for your details.
Who makes it
Was It Breached is made by Secria, which makes Secria Mail and Secria VPN. Secria holds customer data too, so breaches are close to our work. Nothing on this site recommends a paid product, including ours. We aren't affiliated with any company named on this site, and listing a breach here isn't a finding that the company was at fault.
How we check a breach
- We only list a breach once we've read the company's own notice and at least one government record: the HHS breach portal for health data, a state attorney general's breach list, or a company's filing with a regulator.
- A filing alone isn't enough. In June 2026 Maine's attorney general said hoax breach reports had been filed in the names of VRChat and Discord, and kept its public breach list offline while it reviewed its procedures (its statement of 12 June 2026).
- We don't list claims by hacking groups or posts on leak sites, and we don't link to leaked data.
- Where the account comes from the company, we say "the company says".
- Numbers name their record. Where we can't confirm a total in an official record, we say so and give the count from a state filing, with the state named.
- Counts change as more letters go out, so each source carries the date we read it, and we re-check each listed breach every month.
Not legal advice
We describe what companies and regulators have published and the steps government agencies recommend. We don't give legal advice or cover lawsuits and settlements.
